According to reports, Apple is planning a significant overhaul of Siri, transforming the voice assistant into an AI chatbot directly integrated within iPhones and Macs.
The update, slated for release later this year, is expected to replace the current Siri interface, enabling users to interact with the assistant through both typing and voice commands, similar to chatbots offered by platforms like Google, OpenAI, and Anthropic.
Bloomberg notes that this change is distinct from the AI personalization features set to launch in the coming months. As reported, akin to the updated Siri, this chatbot will utilize a customized Google Gemini AI model, part of a multi-year partnership announced by the two companies earlier this year. However, this version's capabilities are said to "significantly surpass" its AI personalization counterparts.
It is reported that Apple intends to unveil the Siri AI update, codenamed Campos, at its Worldwide Developers Conference in June, with a formal release scheduled for September. Gurman writes that it will be a "major new addition" to iOS 27, iPadOS, and macOS 27, with other updates primarily focusing on stability improvements.
